Sometimes, all it takes to get on the road to success, is an idea in your head. Sometimes, small ideas have the power to take on the Goliaths of the world.
The men’s shaving industry has been the butt of a lot of jokes over the years. The industry just could not innovate beyond increasing the number of blades on the razor. Take the latest Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power razor for example:
The thing has a microchip on it and 5 blades!! Are people forgetting how to shave over time? Why do you need a microchip for that!
The Disruption
A small company called The Dollar Shave Club is looking to change all that by sending new razors to its US subscribers every month for a dollar! Here is a hilarious video of the service:
Judging by the numbers, looks like the company is doing great. In the first 24 hours after the online ad went live, the company received 5,000 new subscriptions. More than 12,000 people have already signed up for the service. It was founded by the former CEO of MySpace.com. According to the Los Angeles Times, Dollar Shave Club has also received nearly $1 million in venture capital and angel funding.
The next industry waiting to be disrupted was wrist watches. Until now, the only innovations there have been in form-factors – thickness of the watch, dial/strap design – and materials used in building the watch.
Enter Pebble. Here is how they define their watch:
Pebble is the first watch built for the 21st century. It’s infinitely customizable, with beautiful downloadable watch-faces and useful internet-connected apps. Pebble connects to iPhone and Android smartphones using Bluetooth, alerting you with a silent vibration to incoming calls, emails and messages.
How cool is that!
In this complex day and age, all you need is one good idea which can take your business to the next level. What are your big ideas?
