Ok, I’ve decided to make this post a little different than the normal “life is going ok” posts of mine… I talk of things that piss me off… *rubs hands with glee*

I attend a lot of business meetings and my job involves interviewing the head honchos of a lot of big companies… AMD, Intel… u know… all those kinds of ppl… In every single interview the guy/babe has said, “India is an important part of our scheme of things.” – That’s where I start to boil with rage and try not to become Hulk. Please ppl! We know that India is important… we’ve heard that a zillion times already. Why don’t u travel to India more often, why don’t u setup headquarters here? Jeez… “India is important”… if you really cared, u’d be localising all the software to include languages like Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, etc. I don’t want Russian when am installing your software!!! Moron.

Talking of piracy, don’t tell me your country doesn’t have piracy, don’t gimmie shit like, “but it’s more in India”. Get your facts right… last I heard, the EU and US are the main traffic for Bittorrent and Usenet. As an indicator, traffic on ISOHunt nosedived when they banned EU and US traffic from their trackers… they had to unban them to get advertisers! So much for their bold proclamation that they were doing so to protect the user’s privacy.

Let’s talk of the iPhone now… It’s a brilliant marketing strategy, no doubting that but it me thinks it’s completely over-hyped. I hear jerks saying I love the iPhone… even when they haven’t used one in their life (and prolly wont for the rest of their life!). I have, and let me tell u, it’s not like how it’s hyped to be. Maybe am not a big GUI fan but stuff like coverflow and multitouch seem trivial to me… what use is all that if you can’t mash things and include third party functionality in your phone. Nokia does a better job of that (their phones are slow as hell though!). It also disses me when 16 yr olds tell me that it’s available for *only* 25k… WTF!

Why do ppl hate the Chinese? I love em… thanks to them, prices of everything I own have gone down! Shoes to phones to computers… Got to love those “small-eyed-peas”.

Why don’t more ppl use the Opera browser? It’s the best in the world damn it! Forget FF (and no, am not even talking abt its bloatware here), the browser is just slow at rendering and it doesn’t pass ACID2 either! So much for its proclamation of being standards compliant… they rip all of Opera’s features – blatantly!

Talking of Open source… I used Gutsy Gibbon… It was loaded with bloatware again… I spent half a day removing all the junk I didn’t need from the OS… Seahorse – I hated it. I don’t use personal PGP… ever! The only feature I liked was the OS asking you to download a particular codec when it couldn’t play a file… that was neat IMHO.

End of rant — back to normal programming.

Dad is coming to town today so waiting to hear from him… will be going to uncle’s place in the evening to meet him. So can’t wait any longer for that. It’s been a long few days, I spent a whole week writing a huge article and accidently deleted it. Spent 2 nights in office writing it again, so I am a little dazed right now. It was Aa’s budday yesterday so we had a family gathering to celebrate it. I was just a tad jealous that no one wants to celebrate my birthday, all we did was cousins going out, but that’s still ok I guess, it’s the thought that counts (am i being unconventionally diplomatic here?).

Anyways… gotta get back to work… cya ppl!
